Nan Luo Gu Xiang (南锣鼓巷) is a traditional hutong in Beijing. It was built in the Yuan Dynasty and named in the Qing dynasty. Today it transformed itself with restaurants, ceramics, antique shops, and street foods.

Hutong (alleyways) have grown to be very popular for people to experience the olden times in Beijing. It's worth a visit to see the cultural architecture of the old communities. This hutong was called "Luogu Lane" during the Ming Dynasty because it has the feature of gong or drum with the middle part raised higher than the two ends. In 1750, the lane was divided into South Gong and Drum Lane and North Gong and Drum Lane. There are also a lot of shops for souvenirs, antiques, and cafes to visit. Come before sunset so you can actually see the architectures (I wish I did this) and then grab some street food and have a nightly stroll once the sun sets.
