The 798 Art District was originally a "joint factory" complex that was formed in the 1950s to produce electronics. Beginning in 2002, it was transformed by artists and cultural organizations into an art district featuring contemporary art, architecture, and urban culture and living. Because of its history, a theme of propaganda art of the cultural revolution can be found in many of these exhibitions and architecture.
Check out this giant tree being part of the building. The architecture here really embraces its surroundings and its origins.
751 used to be a sub-factory of the whole complex. Now is it known as 751 D-Park: Fashion Design Square.
This train is part of the Ace CafĂ© 751 that retained the structure of the old 751 train station.
UCCA: Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art resides here.

This place is a showcase of modern Beijing. I first learned about the 798 Art District through my family when I was visiting Beijing. Apparently it's a popular spot for shooting dramas. The district is huge and is separated into several sections. It can get a bit confusing. It took me half a day to walk through the whole park and I'm not sure if I covered everything. What's special about this art district is it's combination of contemporary art and real revolution artifacts that's unique to Beijing. There are also lot of hip cafes and restaurants located throughout the district worth visiting.
